I'm Mukesh Gupta, a Member of Technical Staff III at Cohesity. For the last ten years — first at Veritas Technologies, now at Cohesity — I've worked on enterprise data protection: the software that backs up, snapshots, and restores the data companies can't afford to lose.

That has put me in the middle of a remarkably varied storage landscape. NetApp, Dell EMC, Pure Storage, Qumulo — each one solves the same problem in its own way, with its own APIs, quirks, and strengths. My job is to learn what makes each one distinct and then make our product feel like it was built for it all along. Done well, an integration disappears; it just works, and nobody thinks about the seams.

In practice that's meant some genuinely fun engineering: bridging a C SDK into Python with ctypes, building a snapshot-diff framework backed by SQLite, standardising consistency-group snapshots across SAN vendors, and untangling concurrency bugs that only showed up on Solaris or AIX. I tend to own work end to end — from the first architecture spike to the customer POC to the hotfix that has to land tonight.

The part I didn't expect to enjoy as much is the teaching. I like running knowledge-transfer sessions, walking teammates through a tricky vendor behaviour before it bites them, and writing things down so the next person doesn't have to rediscover them. After a decade I'm still most engaged by the questions that don't have an obvious answer — the ones that make you understand how a system really works underneath.
